Donations

Local Harvest accepts the following as food donations. You may donate directly to our warehouse site or to a local food pantry in your area. Please contact your local city hall or county government to find a facility nearest you. We will accept any sealed box, can, bag, but many people still get confused as to what is acceptable so the list below should help.

Dairy:

All milk, cheese, butter and other dairy products must be donated to a facility that has access to a refridgerator. All products must be unopened and within the use by date stated on the package.

Meat:

All meat must be donated to a facility with access to a freezer or refridgerator and it must be in its original packaging and within the use by date. We accept both pork, beef, chicken, other poultry, fish, lamb, and most any type of meats.

Any facility will accept donations of original packaged and canned foods such as:

  • canned corn (any kind)
  • canned peas
  • canned green beans (any kind)
  • canned mixed vegetables

  • canned pinapple (any kind)

Bakery:

We prefer all breads, muffins, cookies, rolls, and other such bakery items to come from a business donation such as that from a bakery or grocery store. However, such items can be donated if the item is unopened and has been frozen to preserve it or within the use by date on the fresh package.

Fresh Produce:

Fresh produce will be accepted throughout the spring to autumn and must not include any spoilt foods. It need not be washed as volunteers are there to help out, but washing before donating speeds up the sorting process. Anyone wishing to donate leafy greens such as lettuce, kale or herbs must bring them the day of picking. We will also accept fresh eggs, but check with your location before bringing.

There is a large need for baby products to help those not able to qualify for WIC federal program for teen mothers or low-income mothers with children.

Pet Products)

Many seniors that live alone and many homeless people often have a pet companion that is their only family. To this end we have recently started accepting pet products.
