About Us
Local Harvest believes that no one should ever go hungry. The midwest produces an abundant amount of food to feed everyone and without places for farmers to donate unsold produce much of it would become waste material. With the proper food, children can focus on learning, parents can focus on work, and everyone can help their community thrive.
Local Harvest was born in October of 2000 when the two main food banks of Minneapolis and Saint Paul decided to combine into one and bring together 50 years of serving the needs of their communities.
More than A Food Bank:
Local Harvest is a member of Feeding America, a network of over 200 food banks spread throughout all 50 states. We procure food from manufacturers, farmers, the public, fund-raisers, special events, and more. We gather enough food to distribute around 80 million meals annually and pride ourselves on food safety and proper storage. We partner with food pantries, soup kitchens, before and after school programs, senior centers, veterans, homeless shelters, and more in order to serve the growing need of over 59 counties of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Our fleet of 30 trucks can travel over 500,000 miles per year picking up and delivering food to the main 90-thousand square-foot warehouse or other various locations.
